Netflix

This is not a weight loss blog.

It's been weeks since my last post. The absence was unintentional, though also inexcusable. I'd like to say that I was too busy to write, too busy to sit down and compose my thoughts, or that the cold or hardship somehow warned me off --but realistically, there's just been a lot of good television.

I've watched a lot of television.

A couple of years back, I cut the cord on my cable. For a while, I had a Netflix subscription by mail. That was a Godsend when I first got it. There's nothing like binge-watching overly complicated science-fiction dramas when you're unhappy.

I watched the entire run of "The Wire" when my wife left me, and then burned through the BBC's version of "Life on Mars," "Fringe" and "Battlestar Galactica" all in just a couple of months.

Netflix was cheaper than drinking. I could afford Netflix. I could not afford the booze necessary to ward off the existential crisis I found myself in.

The television I watch now has mostly been through Amazon's streaming service. They have a better selection --and I'm not watching because I'm unhappy. Far from it. Despite occasional lapses into melancholy brought on by the usual suspects, I'm in a pretty decent place.

The only problem is television makes me boring. It takes away legitimate experience and replaces it within nothing in particular. The dullest conversations you ever have to listen to are the conversations between two people who are watching some show you're not. Watching the show and being able to join in that conversation doesn't really add much either.

So, it's sucked some of my time at blogging and writing away and given me little to write about in return.

Ah well... at least I'm aware of it and season two of "Hannibal" was pretty good.
